Insurance Fraud Awareness Week Declared...
June 6 - 12, 2010 has been declared Insurance Fraud Awareness Week in the State of Nebraska.

Insurance fraud comes in many forms: arson, staged accidents, vehicle owner give-ups, falsified or exaggerated injuries, and healthcare fraud just to name a few. The fact is any form of insurance fraud is a serious crime and it costs consumers billions of dollars annually. Nebraska Governor Dave Heineman recognized the negative financial and emotional impact insurance fraud has caused the citizens of Nebraska by proclaiming June 6 - 12
, 2010 “Insurance Fraud Awareness Week” in the State of Nebraska. The proclamation raises awareness of the insurance fraud problem and enlists the support of all Nebraskans in the fight against insurance fraud.

Joining in support of the governor’s proclamation are the Iowa-Nebraska Chapter of the International Association of Special Investigation Units, the Nebraska Department of Insurance Fraud Prevention Division, the National Insurance Crime Bureau, the Coalitional Against Insurance Fraud, the National Health Care Anti-Fraud Association, the Eastern Nebraska Anti-Fraud Association and the Heartland Chapter of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners.
Marking Insurance Fraud Awareness Week will be the 10th Annual Nebraska Insurance Fraud Conference, hosted by the Nebraska Department of Insurance Fraud Prevention Division.  The conference is being held at Mahoney State Park June 8th and 9th and will provide training to law enforcement and industry investigators on a varitey of insurance fraud related topics.
A public awareness advertising campaign is also underway in the Omaha metro area.  The awareness advertising, co-sponsored by the Iowa-Nebraska IASIU and the Eastern Nebraska Anti-Fraud Association, will run on three Omaha Metro Area Transit buses from May 31 to June 30.  The message is "Insurance Fraud, A CRIME that costs you MONEY!" and provides the public with the NICB Insurance Fraud Hotline phone number.

The supporters of Insurance Fraud Awareness Week want to encourage all Nebraskans to help themselves by getting involved with the fight against insurance fraud.
